A critique alone yields nothing without your contribution. It’s only the beginning. What truly matters is how effectively you, the author, integrate the commentary into a thorough rewrite. You may not agree with every observation; in fact, you probably won’t. However, the comments that challenge you most will likely be those that strengthen your manuscript the best.

Expect to encounter issues you may not have anticipated. Professionals in the industry evaluate manuscripts differently than writers, beta readers or English professors. Set aside any preconceived notions about your manuscript’s weaknesses.

A Critical, Not Entertaining, Read

Your manuscript won’t be read for enjoyment or entertainment purposes. Please don’t expect me to make personal judgments. A critique requires deep concentration, and the process involves constant interruptions to provide commentary. The goal is not to determine entertainment value, which is too subjective, but rather to find fault that can be eliminated.
